Where to Buy VCE Practice Exams & Notes (Victoria, 2026)

Choose VCE notes and practice exams for the specific gap in your revision. ATARMAxxing offers VCE subject hubs with notes and model exams; compare a free preview with the official papers and other options below.

This guide is about the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), the Year 12 qualification in Victoria, not .vce exam-simulator files for IT certifications. Short answer: for VCE practice exams, start with the free VCAA past exams and examination reports. Buy a trial-exam pack or use an online subject hub when you need more full papers than VCAA has published for the current study design. Buy a printed study guide if you want condensed theory, and a student note marketplace if you want notes written by a recent high scorer.

VCE written exams begin on 27 October 2026. With a few weeks to go, more practice papers sat under time and marked honestly is usually the best use of money, which is why this guide is organised around practice exams first.

Where can you get free official VCE papers?

VCAA publishes past exams, and for most subjects an examination report explaining how responses were assessed. They are free, and they are the best evidence of what your exam will look like. These are official VCAA documents, not something ATARMAxxing sells; we list them by subject so you do not have to dig.

Official reference: VCAA study designs.

Every other subject is on the past papers index. Study designs change on a cycle, so check the year of each paper: questions on content that has since been removed are not worth your limited time.

When should you choose printed guides or trial-exam packs?

Choose a printed guide for organised explanations, or a trial-exam pack when you need additional suitable papers.

  • Neap publishes VCE trial exams and practice exam packs, which many schools buy and set as trials. Good when you want papers in the exact VCAA format.
  • ATAR Notes publishes Complete Course Notes and topic-test books for VCE subjects, and its shop also stocks exam packs. Its forum is a large free resource. Published prices are on our ATAR Notes comparison.
  • Cambridge Checkpoints collects real VCAA exam questions by topic, so you can drill one Area of Study. Prices are on the Checkpoints comparison.
  • A+ study guides (Cengage) pair condensed notes with practice questions in one book.

Some trial-exam publishers also have their papers resold by several bookshops, so the same pack can show up under different shop names. Check the edition year before you buy, and check whether your school has already set that pack as a trial, because sitting a paper you have already seen tells you much less.

What should you check before buying student notes?

Check the current syllabus, sample pages and the topics covered before buying student notes. Good ones are concise and written by someone who has just done your course. Quality varies, though, and the score in the title is the seller's claim.

Look for a preview, the study design year the notes were written for, and coverage of every Area of Study.

What do ATARMAxxing VCE subject hubs include?

ATARMAxxing VCE hubs combine revision notes, model exams, practice questions and flashcards. ATARMAxxing is built around practice exams. Each Year 12 subject hub includes:

  • 20 full-length model exams in the VCAA style, each with a mark-by-mark answer guide;
  • 20 revision note sets for Units 3 and 4;
  • 64 practice questions with worked solutions;
  • 200 flashcards for spaced recall;
  • a free preview of every subject, and free notes to download first.

You pay once per subject, with no subscription. The list price is A$40 per subject; the pricing page shows the current offer. Other online platforms work differently: Edrolo is a classroom video platform usually arranged through schools, Atomi is video and quiz based, and StudyPulse is a subscription covering all subjects.

How should you use VCE resources before exams?

Whatever you buy, the plan that works is the same: sit, mark, fix. Sit a full paper under real time limits, including reading time. Mark it honestly against the examination report or answer guide, and write down every mark you dropped and why.

Then spend the next session fixing those specific gaps before the next paper.

  • First, the recent VCAA exams for the current study design. Save the most recent one for close to the exam if you can, so you have a genuinely unseen official paper left.
  • Then the examination reports. They explain what high-scoring answers did differently, which is often the fastest way to pick up marks on extended responses.
  • Then extra papers from whichever source you chose, once the official supply for the current study design is used up.

Two papers sat properly and corrected properly are worth more than five skimmed. If you are juggling several subjects, put your extra practice into the subjects where a few marks would move your study score most, and check how they scale on the scaling page.

How do you choose a VCE study resource?

Choose a resource that matches your course, explains its answers and lets you inspect a sample.

  • Current study design: the exam is written to the study design in force this year. Check the edition.
  • Marking that matches VCAA: an answer key alone is not enough for extended responses. Look for a guide showing where each mark is awarded.
  • A preview before paying: see a sample page or paper first.
  • Per subject or subscription: subscriptions suit many subjects over many months; with weeks left, buying only the subjects you are worried about is usually cheaper.

Which VCE subjects can you preview free?

The VCE collection includes free previews for the subjects listed below.

Common questions

Where can I buy VCE notes online?

Publishers such as ATAR Notes, Cambridge and Cengage sell VCE study guides online; past-student notes are sold on High School Notes, Thinkswap and Etsy; and online hubs such as ATARMAxxing sell notes, practice exams and flashcards per subject.

Are bought VCE notes worth it?

They help when they fill a gap you have, such as a condensed summary of an Area of Study or answers explained mark by mark. They do not replace sitting full VCAA papers under exam conditions.

Is there a cheaper alternative to ATAR Notes?

There are several. VCAA past exams are free, second-hand guides and note marketplaces can cost less, and online hubs price per subject or by subscription. Our ATAR Notes comparison page shows the published prices.

Are VCAA past exams free?

Yes. VCAA publishes past exams and examination reports free of charge, and our past papers index links them by subject.

Is ATARMAxxing a subscription for VCE subjects?

No. It is a one-time payment per subject with access for as long as the platform operates, and nothing renews. Current prices are on the pricing page.
