VERIFICATION METHOD: All years 2018-2025 exam-pack and marking-guidelines PDF URLs were individually fetched from their dedicated NESA/nsw.gov.au year pages (e.g. nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/nesa/curriculum/hsc-exam-papers/english-extension-1/{year}) and confirmed as live, official nsw.gov.au-hosted PDFs. 2016 and 2017 were confirmed present on the official archive index (nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/nesa/curriculum/hsc-exam-papers/english-extension-1-archive) but their individual year sub-pages were not independently re-fetched to pull the exact PDF filename — only the archive listing page URL is guaranteed-fresh for those two years; treat the 2016/2017 'papers[].url' as the listing page pending a direct fetch of the year sub-page if exact PDF links are needed. HOST MIGRATION: NESA's old host (educationstandards.nsw.edu.au) now 301-redirects to www.nsw.gov.au for all exam-paper and syllabus content; all URLs in this record use the current live host (www.nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/nesa/...). SYLLABUS ERA CAVEAT: The 2017 English Extension Stage 6 Syllabus has been in force since HSC 2018, but NESA's own material references a discrete 'English Stage 6 Prescriptions: Modules, Electives and Texts 2019-2026' refresh, meaning the exact elective titles/text lists used in 2018 (and earlier archive years 2014-2017, under an even older syllabus/prescriptions) likely differ from the five current electives (Literary Homelands, Worlds of Upheaval, Reimagined Worlds, Literary Mindscapes, Intersecting Worlds) captured in topics[]. Topics[] reflects the CURRENT (2019-2026 prescriptions) structure only, per the task's instruction to map to the current study design. Do not assume 2016-2018 papers use these same elective names — flagged in each year's notes. SUCCESSOR SYLLABUS: A new 'English Extension 11-12 Syllabus (2024)' replaces the 2017 syllabus, first taught Year 11 in 2026, Year 12 from Term 4 2026, with the FIRST HSC EXAM UNDER IT IN 2027 — i.e. all years in this index (2016-2025) are safely within the current/outgoing 2017-syllabus era; 2026 will be the last HSC exam under the 2017 syllabus and is not yet held as of this record's compilation date (2026-07-08). QUESTIONS[] EMPTY BY DESIGN: I was only able to retrieve AI-summarized extractions of each PDF's content via WebFetch, not a reliable direct question-by-question read of the actual exam text (one attempted direct PDF fetch for 2018 returned non-extractable/binary content). Per the task's strict rule against guessing, questions[] is left empty rather than fabricated or inferred. REPORT/MARKING-GUIDELINES NOTE: NESA does not appear to publish a separate 'examination report' or 'subject report' document for English Extension 1 in the years checked (2018-2025) — marker feedback is instead embedded as HTML content directly on each year's exam-pack webpage, with the downloadable 'marking guidelines' PDF being the closest formal artifact; reportUrl fields point to that marking-guidelines PDF as the best available proxy. COVERAGE: 10 years captured (2016-2025), meeting the 'most recent ~10 years where available' requirement. No cancelled-exam anomalies for this subject — 2020 written exams proceeded on schedule despite COVID (unlike some performance-based HSC components in other subjects).
