VERIFICATION METHOD: All URLs copied from the official VCAA past-papers index page (fetched live) and spot-verified with HTTP HEAD requests returning 200 on www.vcaa.vic.edu.au (checked 2016, 2023, 2024, 2025 files). The 2025 exam PDF was downloaded directly from the official host and its full text extracted page-by-page with pypdf — every question[] entry for 2025 is read from that real document (Section A: 7 questions/40 marks; Section B: 5 questions/40 marks; confirmed reading time 15 min, writing time 1hr30, total 80 marks). The 2024 exam PDF (12.8MB) could not be fully downloaded in the time available (slow/throttled connection) — its content was NOT guessed; no 2024-specific questions are included. Because VCD's Section A design examples and Section B design brief are ENTIRELY NEW each year (VCAA supplies fresh Resource Book images/brief annually), 2025's question TOPICS cannot be assumed to repeat in 2024 — so questions[] is limited to 2025 only rather than extrapolated. STUDY DESIGN ERAS: Confirmed 3 eras via official VCAA references: 2013–2017 (accreditation confirmed via VCAA study design documentation), 2018–2023 (VisualCommunicationDesignSD_2018.pdf, confirmed via official past-papers page note: "previous study design"), 2024–2028 (current, confirmed via official past-papers page note: "current VCE Visual Communication Design study design" applying to 2024 and 2025 exams). TOPICS SOURCE: The topics[] structure (Unit 1-4 Areas of Study, exact titles and descriptions) was extracted from a Catholic secondary school's official 2024 subject guide (Kilbreda College, kilbreda.vic.edu.au) which reproduces the VCAA 2024-2028 study design's Area of Study titles and rationale verbatim/near-verbatim. This is NOT an official VCAA host, so it was used ONLY to establish topic/subtopic wording for the browsing structure — no URLs from this source appear anywhere in years[] or questions[]. Attempts to fetch the actual VCAA .docx study design (2024VisualCommunicationDesignSD.docx) via WebFetch failed because WebFetch cannot parse binary .docx content; the VCAA curriculum/assessment HTML pages describe the areas of study only in summary form, not with full subtopic breakdowns. EXAM FORMAT NOTE: VCD's external exam is 1.5 hours (not the typical 2-2.5hr VCE exam), reading time 15 min. Section A (40 marks) = short-answer analysis of provided design examples across 4 "fields of design practice" (Messages, Environments, Objects, Interactive experiences) supplied fresh each year in a Resource Book, plus one designer-comparison question. Section B (40 marks) = a single practical design-process task (Discover/Develop/Deliver stages) responding to a brief and design criteria that are ALSO new each year. Because of this, "subtopic" mapping for questions is necessarily generic (mapped to process stages/concepts like Gestalt principles, legal obligations, aesthetic decisions, conceptions of good design) rather than to fixed content topics — VCD questions test application of concepts to novel stimuli, not recall of fixed content. GAPS: 2024 exam questions not verified (download failure) — recommend a follow-up fetch when connection allows. Pre-2018 years (2016-2017) fall under an even earlier study design; their exact era label beyond "2013-2017" was not independently re-verified against a full VCAA document (accreditation period sourced via search summary, not a directly fetched PDF) — flagged as slightly lower-confidence for those two years specifically, though the URLs themselves are verified live.
