Answer: Worked solution
Global forest cover is not evenly distributed; it is concentrated in three broad belts. A dense tropical-forest belt straddles the equator (roughly 10°N–10°S) across the Amazon Basin of South America, the Congo Basin of central Africa and the islands of South-East Asia (Borneo, Sumatra, New Guinea). A second, boreal (taiga) belt of coniferous forest stretches almost continuously across the high northern latitudes (roughly 50–70°N) through Canada, Scandinavia and Russia. Temperate forests occur in the mid-latitudes of eastern North America, Europe, eastern China and parts of south-eastern Australia. Forest is largely absent from the great desert latitudes (~20–30°N/S, e.g. the Sahara and central Australia) and from the polar and tundra zones beyond ~70°N.
