Sample question
A sealed 2.0 L vessel contains a mixture at equilibrium for the reaction N2(g) + 3H2(g) ⇌ 2NH3(g). At equilibrium the vessel holds 0.20 mol N2, 0.40 mol H2 and 0.60 mol NH3. What is the value of the equilibrium constant Kc?
  • A. 4.5
  • B. 28
  • C. 113
  • D. 375

Answer: C

Convert to concentrations (divide by 2.0 L): [N2]=0.10, [H2]=0.20, [NH3]=0.30 mol/L. Kc = [NH3]^2 / ([N2][H2]^3) = (0.30)^2 / (0.10 × (0.20)^3) = 0.090 / (0.10 × 0.0080) = 0.090 / 0.00080 = 113.
