This paper covers
- Global issue (Unit 3 AoS1): Development — short-term causes of development crises within the last decade, how global interconnectedness amplifies uneven development, and the effectiveness of global actor responses (World Bank, IMF, UN/SDGs, G20 Common Framework, China's Belt and Road Initiative, COP28 Loss and Damage Fund)
- Contemporary crisis (Unit 3 AoS2): Armed conflict — using the Sudan civil war (SAF vs RSF, since April 2023) and Russia's invasion of Ukraine (since Feb 2022) as core cases, covering key actors and competing interests, humanitarian/political consequences, and the effectiveness of UN, ICC, ICJ and state-based responses
- Indo-Pacific state (Unit 4 AoS1): USA — national interests (security, economic prosperity, international standing), use of hard/soft/sharp/smart power (AUKUS, Indo-Pacific Strategy, CHIPS Act, Quad), internal challenges (political polarisation, national debt) and external challenges (US-China strategic competition, Taiwan Strait tensions), and overall effectiveness in achieving national interests
- Australia in the Indo-Pacific (Unit 4 AoS2): Australia's national interests and use of power in the Pacific — AUKUS, the Falepili Union with Tuvalu (2023), the Pacific Engagement Visa, the PALM scheme, and the stabilisation of the Australia-China relationship — analysed through an original embedded data/quote source on Pacific labour mobility and aid
- Integration across Areas of Study: Section C requires synthesising development and armed conflict together (Unit 3), and the USA's power alongside Australia's regional strategy together (Unit 4), with explicit use of core concepts (power, national interest, sovereignty, legitimacy, multilateralism/bilateralism, interconnectedness, stability and change) and judged, evidence-weighted conclusions rather than descriptive surveys
