Health Studies Level 3 (HLT315118), Version 2b
The examination has 180 minutes working time plus 15 minutes preparation. Sections A, B and C each carry 60 attempted marks: three compulsory 10-mark questions followed by one 30-mark extended response chosen from two. There are 270 marks offered, but candidates attempt 180. Criterion 7 communication is rated separately on an alpha scale and is not converted into extra marks. The final award uses eight internal and six external ratings; TASC states no fixed examination percentage.
Past papers on this subject span more than one course document. Papers written under an older one still work as practice, but the modules they test have changed — the index labels every paper with the course document it was set under.

The modules, one by one
Each area below lists the concepts named in the course document, what the TASC exam asks of them, and the mistake that most often costs marks.
Unit 1: Introduction to Health
Unit 2: Personal Health
Unit 3: Australian Health
Unit 4: Global Health
Area 1 of 4
Unit 1: Introduction to Health
Define and analyse health, health status and determinants, using appropriate indicators and evidence.
What the exam asks
Interpret data accurately, distinguish comparisons and evaluate the strength and limits of conclusions across all three examination sections.
Where marks go missing
A percentage-point difference is not the same as a relative percentage change. Use the supplied denominator, population and time period.
Area 2 of 4
Unit 2: Personal Health
Analyse interacting influences on individual health and examine preventive, curative and treatment strategies.
What the exam asks
Section A combines data interpretation, personal determinants and strategy evaluation with an extended response.
Where marks go missing
An explanation based only on personal choice can overlook resources, social conditions and access to support.
Area 3 of 4
Unit 3: Australian Health
Compare health status across Australian populations and explain inequalities through interacting determinants.
What the exam asks
Section B requires supported analysis of population health and appropriate evaluation of strategies and health issues.
Where marks go missing
A group average does not describe every individual. Avoid deficit assumptions and connect claims to the evidence supplied.
Area 4 of 4
Unit 4: Global Health
Compare global health contexts and evaluate development, aid, primary health care and sustainable responses.
What the exam asks
Section C integrates global comparisons, health strategies, data evidence and an extended response.
Where marks go missing
An intervention’s activity count does not by itself demonstrate improved health or equitable outcomes.
Common questions
Must I answer both extended responses in a section?
No. Answer all three short-answer questions and select one of the two extended-response options in each section. That is 60 attempted marks per section and 180 overall.
How is communication assessed?
Criterion 7 is separately alpha rated in the extended response. The practice guide keeps communication feedback separate from the numerical marks; it is not an extra numerical component.
Are practice statistics official population estimates?
Follow the stimulus label. Hypothetical data are constructed for original practice and should not be reported as real-world prevalence or outcomes. Any identified official source should be interpreted with its stated date and limitations.
Are these official questions?
No. They are original ATARMAxxing questions. Official TASC past papers and assessment reports are linked separately.
What does preparation time allow?
Use the additional 15 minutes for permitted notes and highlighting under the examination instructions. Do not begin answers before permission is given.
Practise it against the real thing
Knowing the course document is the first half. The other half is seeing how TASC actually asks it — every official paper for Health Studies is indexed by the same areas above.
