This paper covers
- Unseen literary text: original First Nations Australian prose narrative (~420 words) interrogating colonial memory and dispossession
- Text-centred theoretical approach: narratology, language and style, structural analysis of fragmentation and temporal disruption
- World-context-centred theoretical approach: postcolonial theory (colonial discourse, hybridity, counter-narrative) and reader-centred theory (reading as a positioned subject, affective reading, resistant reading)
- Close reading skills: identifying and explaining how specific textual features (voice, syntax, imagery, deixis, fragmentation) construct layered meaning
- Evaluative synthesis: assessing the relative productivity of text-centred versus postcolonial world-context-centred readings in generating interpretive insight
- Scholarly register: metalanguage, academic essay conventions, citation of theoretical frameworks by name
- Unit 3 Ways of Reading: text-centred and world-context-centred orientations applied to a single unseen text
- Unit 4 Exploration and Evaluation: evaluative argument, theoretically defensible claims, acknowledgement of interpretive limits
