- Core theme: how gender fluidity and challenges to binary norms operate as contemporary nonconformity, examined through continuity and change across personal, interpersonal, sociocultural and structural levels of society
- Depth studies: Person and Society (identity formation and the self amid fluid gender expression) and Intercultural Communication (cross-cultural constructions of gender and the translation of nonconformity across cultures)
- Skills assessed: source analysis, sociological concepts (socialisation, norms, values, sanctions, roles, status), quantitative/qualitative methods, Band 6 extended writing integrating theory, evidence and personal/structural frameworks
