- Core: Continuity and change in LGBTQIA+ rights movements in Australia — from criminalisation and social exclusion to decriminalisation, legal equality and cultural recognition across multiple scales (personal, community, societal, global)
- Depth study integration: Personal and Social Identity (impact of identity politics, social movements and globalisation on LGBTQIA+ Australians) and Popular Culture (representation, countercultural movements, the role of Mardi Gras and media in shifting norms)
- Analytical skills: using sociological concepts (power, norms, values, social control, marginalisation, socialisation) and HSC methodology (research methods, ethical frameworks, continuity/change, perspectives) to evaluate primary and secondary evidence
