VCE Exam Timetable 2026: Key Dates + Study Plan
The 2026 VCE written-exam period runs from 27 October to 18 November. Use the ATARMAxxing VCE subject hubs to build a practice plan around your own confirmed exam dates.
If you are sitting VCE Units 3 and 4 this year, the exam period is the immovable point everything else should be planned around. Here are the 2026 dates that matter and, more usefully, how to build a study plan that works backwards from them so you are not cramming in the final week.
What are the key VCE dates in 2026?
The GAT was on 16 June, and the VCE written-exam period runs from 27 October to 18 November 2026. Always confirm the exact day and time of each of your subjects against the official VCAA timetable when it is published - we are not affiliated with VCAA, and individual subject slots move around within the window.

When was the 2026 GAT?
The 2026 General Achievement Test was held on Tuesday 16 June. Almost every Units 3 and 4 student sits it. It is not a subject exam and it does not directly produce a study score, but it still matters - see our GAT guide and practice questions for what it is used for and how to prepare in a week.
When are the 2026 VCE written exams?
The main VCE written examination period runs from 27 October to 18 November 2026. Your subjects will be scheduled on specific days within that window. Performance subjects and languages oral exams generally run earlier (often from early October), so check those separately if they apply to you.
For every VCE subject’s date, start time and length on one page, with a live countdown, see our VCE exam timetable 2026. Then turn your own dates into a week-by-week plan with the free VCE exam countdown and study planner.
How do you read the official VCE timetable?
Record each subject’s date, starting time and permitted materials from the published VCAA timetable. Knowing you have, say, four days between two papers changes how you sequence your final revision.
How do you plan backwards from exam day?
Place your exams in a calendar, then reserve earlier sessions for learning, practice and reviewing mistakes.
How can you use a ten-week countdown?
From roughly mid-August, map your subjects across the weeks leading into late October. Give weaker subjects more slots, and make sure every subject gets at least one full timed practice exam well before its real date. A simple weekly template beats an elaborate plan you abandon - we have one in our VCE study schedule guide.
What should you do in the final fortnight?
In the last two weeks, shift from learning new content to practising and reviewing. Sit full papers under timed conditions, mark them honestly, and spend your time on the specific gaps they expose. This is far more effective than re-reading notes - the reasoning is in the best way to study for exams.
How do you build a realistic study week?
Allocate study around school and other commitments, leaving spare time for unfinished work. Three habits keep it intact. First, give every subject a fixed slot rather than studying whatever you feel like that day - rotation stops your strongest subject quietly eating all the time.
Second, weight the slots by difficulty, not by how much you enjoy the subject, because the marks you are missing are in the topics you avoid. Third, build in slack: leave one empty session a week so that a bad day, a SAC, or a sick day does not knock the whole schedule over. A plan with no slack is a plan you abandon in week two.
Block out the obvious clashes early too. If you have a part-time job, sport, or a busy family week, put those in the calendar first and study around them. Pretending those commitments do not exist is the fastest way to fall behind and then feel guilty about it, which helps nobody.
How should you use gaps between exams?
Use each gap to practise the next subject and correct errors from its earlier practice papers. Resist the urge to cram brand-new material in those gaps. Instead, do targeted review of the specific things your earlier practice papers showed you were weak on, and keep your timing sharp with short bursts of practice questions.
If you have a four-day gap before a paper, plan it deliberately: one day to consolidate, two days of focused practice and review, and a lighter day before the exam so you walk in rested rather than frazzled.
How does the GAT fit into VCE assessment?
The GAT supports quality assurance of VCE assessments and reports literacy and numeracy standards. A few hours of familiarisation with the question style is enough for most students - you are not learning new content for it, just getting comfortable with the format. Treat it as a low-stress checkpoint, not a crisis, and do not let it derail the subject revision you have planned for that fortnight.
Where can you find VCE practice resources?
Start with official VCAA papers and use ATARMAxxing subject previews if you need additional practice. Print your exam dates somewhere you will see them daily, work backwards in weekly blocks, and protect the gaps between papers for review rather than panic. Each of our subject hubs links straight to practice papers; for example, start at VCE Psychology or VCE Business Management.
Where can you practise this next?
Start with the ATARMAxxing subject preview. Check that it fits your course and the task you need to practise before paying for anything.
Which sources should you check?
Use the relevant official source for assessment rules. The practice examples and suggested routines in this guide are ATARMAxxing guidance, not an official marking decision.
