QCE External Exam Revision: A Simple Way to Plan Your Next Study Session

If you are not sure what to revise for QCE externals, start with the assessment section of your subject's current syllabus. The content covered and the exam format depend on the subject, so check yours rather than assuming every external tests the same units.

You can find your subject through the official QCAA syllabus selector. The myQCE external assessment page also explains where to find past papers and what to check before your exams.

What should one study session look like?

Choose one topic you are unsure about and try a few questions without notes. Check the marking material afterwards and write down exactly what your answer missed. Then practise a different question on the same skill.

If timing is the issue, practise a timed section using your paper's instructions. If it is the content, spend time fixing that gap before attempting another full paper.

Keep your revision broad enough to cover the assessed content. Predictions can be tempting, but they are not a reliable reason to skip a topic.

For more practice after the official papers, every QCE subject hub has a free sample to try first.

Common questions

Where do I find what my QCE external covers?

In the assessment section of your subject's current syllabus on the QCAA website. Content and format differ by subject.

Should I skip topics that are unlikely to come up?

What if I keep running out of time?

Practise a timed section using your paper's own instructions, then review where the time went before attempting another full paper.
