This paper covers

  • Section A (Criterion 5): vertical motion under gravity with terminal velocity, with full working, units and directions.
  • Section B (Criterion 6): AC generator emf, graph of emf against time and load current, including at least one labelled field or force diagram.
  • Section C (Criterion 7): diffraction through harbour gaps and resolution, mixing calculation with a justified explanation.
  • Section D (Criterion 8): de Broglie wavelength and electron diffraction, with a non-routine or real-world context.
  • Original paper set on one fictional coastal hydro, wind and harbour project; every number is recomputed in Python (see exams-8-arith-check.json).

Students are permitted to bring into the examination the materials normally allowed for this subject. Answer all questions in the spaces provided.
