Sample question
Written task 49: Prove by mathematical induction that 1+3+⋯+(2n−1)=n² for every positive integer n.
Show the worked answer

Answer: Worked solution

At n=1, the left side is1 and right side1²=1. Assume 1+3+⋯+(2k−1)=k². The next odd term is2(k+1)−1=2k+1. Adding it gives k²+2k+1=(k+1)², which is exactly the right side for n=k+1. The base and implication establish the statement for all positive integers by induction.
