VCE scaling report 2025, explained
VTAC's 2025 Scaling Report is dated 11 December 2025. In it, a raw VCE study score of 30 scaled up the most in Specialist Mathematics (43), Mathematical Methods (35), Chemistry (34), English Language (33), Physics (32), and down the most in Foundation Mathematics (20), Food Studies (23), Outdoor and Environmental Studies (24), Product Design and Technologies (24), Art Making and Exhibiting (25). Of the 29 VCE studies on this page, 10 scaled up, 19 scaled down.

How VCE scaling works
In Victoria, VCAA gives you a raw study score out of 50 for each study. VTAC then scales it. Scaling looks at how students in that study performed across all their other studies: if a study's cohort tends to do well elsewhere, the study is treated as more competitive and its scores are adjusted upward, and if the cohort tends to do less well elsewhere, scores are adjusted downward. The result is a scaled study score between 0 and 55. VTAC then builds your aggregate from an English study, which is compulsory, plus your three next-highest scaled scores, plus 10 per cent of a fifth and sixth scaled score. Aggregates are ranked across the state and converted to an ATAR. Scaling is recalculated every year, so it is never fixed.
See where a raw score sits on the bell curve with the study score calculator, then estimate your rank with the VCE ATAR calculator.
Common questions
What is the VCE scaling report?
The VCE scaling report is VTAC's annual publication showing how each VCE study's raw study scores were adjusted (scaled) to build ATAR aggregates for that year. It lists the scaled score that each raw score became, study by study. The 2025 report, dated 11 December 2025, covers the class of 2025 and is the most recent one published.
Which VCE subjects scaled up the most in 2025?
At a raw study score of 30, the biggest increases in the 2025 VTAC report among the subjects we cover were Specialist Mathematics (43), Mathematical Methods (35), Chemistry (34), English Language (33), Physics (32).
Which VCE subjects scaled down in 2025?
At a raw study score of 30, the lowest scaled scores in the 2025 VTAC report among the subjects we cover were Foundation Mathematics (20), Food Studies (23), Outdoor and Environmental Studies (24), Product Design and Technologies (24), Art Making and Exhibiting (25). Scaling down does not mean a subject is easy: it reflects how that cohort performed across their other subjects.
Will 2026 scaling be the same as 2025?
No. VTAC recalculates scaling every year from that year's results, so 2026 figures will differ. Subjects usually keep a similar direction from year to year, but the size of the adjustment moves. Use the 2025 figures as a guide to the pattern, not a promise.
